Full Course Description

Have you ever wanted to fit in with a particular group? Perhaps you’ve asked yourself “who am I?” Curious about why people join cults? Or maybe you’re a budding activist and want to know how you can impact social change? These are all topics this course explores. In this course, students will examine scientific research on society to discuss topics in human interactions, culture development, and group behaviors. Students will have the opportunity to pull from their own life experiences and develop their personal sociological perspective as we consider topics of culture, identity, gender, race, and religion. Studying sociology helps us to better understand our own lives, the world around us, and to consider how varying perspectives help us mold and develop our present society and culture.
