Full Course Description

Chinese 1 introduces students to Chinese culture and helps them develop a strong foundation in essential vocabulary. This course is designed for students with no or very limited proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. With an emphasis on Chinese culture, students will develop their communicative skills in Mandarin Chinese across the four areas of listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Additionally, students will learn and reflect on how to communicate effectively with people from the Mandarin-speaking world. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on conversation. This will be accomplished through task-based activities, whole class, and small group discussions, and interactive activities that include videos, songs, and games.
