Spanish 1 introduces students to the cultures of the Spanish-speaking world and helps them develop a strong foundation in essential vocabulary. This course is designed for students with no or very limited proficiency in the Spanish language. With an emphasis on Hispanic culture, students will develop their communicative skills in Spanish across the four areas of listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Additionally, students will learn and reflect on how to communicate effectively with people from Spanish-speaking cultures. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on conversation. This will be accomplished through task-based activities, whole class and small group discussions, and interactive activities that include videos, songs, and games.
